James Hill > A bunch of multicolored grapes.

Same bunch as last week, shot at roughly the same angle and time of day, but with a totally different look. I don't know if this bunch will make it through another session. : )

I also updated yesterday's shot with an answer. Dirkster guessed correctly.
James Hill > Eggland's Best Eggs

Love 'em or hate 'em, there's no denying the EB guys have left their mark, quite literally. Personally, I like the EB eggs and usually have a carton on hand, but every single time I open a carton I am reminded of the following exchange from an episode of Futurama:

LEELA: Didn't you have ads in the twentieth century?
FRY: Well, sure, but not in our dreams. Only on TV and radio... and in magazines... and movies, and at ballgames, and on buses, and milk cartons, and T-shirts, and bananas, and written in the sky. But not in dreams, no sirree.

I had breakfast for dinner tonight - now I'm wondering what I might dream about...
James Hill > Silver maple - Acer saccharinum -3979

It was a very grey day here today so I'm pulling out what was going to be my daily for yesterday before I ran across the bees. Shot this cluster of backlit silver maple leaves Easter morning as the sun began to clear the treeline in the background. (yes, I was up and shooting at sunrise for once) The deciduous trees are starting to unfurl their leaves and, while being very small and delicate, they're unblemished and about as perfect as they're ever going to be.

Shot with the 70-200 f/2.8 and extension tubes. It's becoming a real habit to grab this combo and I think I'm finally getting dialed in to the optimal settings for this lens. It is unbelievably sharp for a zoom and, as a bonus, I'm building up my forearms lugging the thing around. : )

My alternate (or companion) image from this shoot was these shagbark hickory leaves, which were so new they still had wrinkles.

Day 5 of the extension tube experiments. I'm really liking this macro stuff. :)

What you are looking at is a very small piece of decomposed rock with some bling. The part photographed is about 1cm on the long side. I found this in a beautiful little creek which runs through a 40 acre property we surveyed last fall. As we were walking the creek, I kept noticing brilliant little glimmers of reflected sunlight in the sandy creek bed. On close inspection, I found the sand was littered with what appeared to be tiny little flakes of gold. My co-workers laughed and insisted that I had found fools gold (pyrite), but I stuck with my theory and did some research on the two just to be sure. I learned that it's somewhat common for creeks in the area to have trace amounts of gold in them. I also learned that pyrite is much harder than gold (harder than steel on the Mohs hardness scale) and the substance I found is malleable and easily deformed by a pocket knife. I seriously doubt there's enough out there to be of any great value, but it is pretty cool to pick up some rocks while hiking and break them open to find the stuff above.
