There are no deer in this photo. Just one highly skilled and stealthy hunter. He too is camouflaged, and just as curious/callous as Momma Dear.

Still watching...

Back to a closer look at the truck. Hard to believe this guy was actually blue one day.

Momma Dear again, still watching me. Daring me. Mocking me.
There are actually two deer in this photo. One has perfected the art of camouflage. But you have to be quick to spot the stressed out little rubber-band.

When deer are hungry, really hungry, they'll eat just about anything that's green, but only up to a point. That point here is about 6 feet.

First shot I was able to manage outside on this day. The tarp laying behind her? I never saw it.

This is Momma Dear. Queen Bee, and, I believe, royal heiress to the estate from which our neighborhood was subdivided years ago. She is apparently mother to at least four of the six regular followers she keeps in tow, and in line. I have watched her run off other does, rambunctious bucks, and even entire other herds. I like to think of her as my guard dog, albeit one who ambles through whenever she darn well pleases and not for the benefit of some foolish human. You can tell she thinks humans are foolish by the way she stares at us; often times stomping her foot in disapproval. She's even scoffed at me on occasion. Today she just watched me like a hawk and moved the herd along at a comfortable pace.

The black sheep in the family, presumably. Did I mention how excitable and jittery this one is? Decaf, Grasshopper. Decaf.

I took four or five shots of this nervous pose. Somewhere between the last two frames, this wound spring sprung and I didn't even catch a trailing hoof as he speed out of sight. Darn lucky he (or she, I'm still not satisfied either way. I've never seen it stand still long enough to verify) What was I saying? Oh yeah... Darn lucky he didn't break something, the way that branch was thrashing around on exit.

Aww. That is all.

Hobbles is a pretty deer, to have had as much difficulty as she has. Or, maybe her bum leg kept her out of the brier patches. Her coat seems much smoother and less blotchy than some of the others.
