James Hill  > Animals > My daily visitors
Just a collection of images documenting the group of deer which visit my yard on a daily basis. Most of the time they show up when the light is so low that poor quality images are the normal result, so most of the shots here have been processed heavily to remove noise. I will likely add and remove images on a continuous basis, as new opportunities arise.

First opportunity for a daylight photo while the deer were still wearing their winter coats. Lucky for them too, as we had freezing rain all day and a few inches of snow the following day. These two were feeding on clover along the driveway, my car sits about five feet out of frame to camera left. I may have to think about using it for a ground blind some day since they're so used to walking all around it.

Shot through my back porch screen door. I heard the group walking up behind me from my recliner and turned around to see this deer looking right at me. Luckily for me I keep the camera within arm's reach most of the time.

Two young bucks in "spring training." I guess they're trying to sort out the details well in advance of the next mating season this fall.

Hobbles again, three days later.
James Hill > June 14, 2009

After 10 days with very few daylight sightings, two bucks finally showed themselves this evening. Their visit was very brief and they were skittish due to some activity in the neighbors yard. I managed three quick shots and then they were gone. I'm fairly certain these are the same two I photographed on June 3rd. It looks like both of them have gained a noticeable amount of antler growth in ten days. It should be interesting to see how they develop in the next two months of even more rapid growth.

Does with fawns continue to elude me. I've accidentally run them out of the yard when venturing out without my camera, and I've also seen them bolt from the yard when pulling in after dark, but so far they've kept their distance whenever I've had a camera and enough light to work with.

Young Whitetail Doe Watching Me Through The Cabin Window.

This guy was feeding with the doe pictured in previous shots, but he was spending all of his time out by the pear tree, eating the fruit which had started falling to the ground.
